The Historic Mosquito Bridge over the South Fork of the American River north of Placerville was built in
1867. Annual maintenance is required to keep the bridge safe and functional. The County Bridge Crew will
be replacing the damaged railing timbers (6”x8”x24’). During the time of the bridge closure, motorists will
need to use State Highway 193 to Rock Creek Road as a detour. Slower speeds and caution are highly
recommended.
Portable changeable message signs will be placed in proximity to the bridge to keep motorists updated on
any changes to the timing of the project.
Your cooperation and patience during this project is appreciated. Questions regarding maintenance activities
may be directed to the Department of Transportation, Maintenance and Operations Division at (530) 642-
4909.
