EXPLORER POST #457

Explorers Training RangeThe El Dorado County Sheriff's Office offers a Law Enforcement Explorer Post to youths in the community!  Post 457 meets every Wednesday at 5:30 PM for 3 hours of law enforcement training. The explorer program is part of Learning for Life's career education program for young men and women who are 15 (may be 14 if you have completed the eighth grade) through 21 years old.

The Explorer’s purpose is to provide experiences that help young people develop and mature so that they , in turn, become responsible and caring adults. Explorers are ready to investigate the meaning of interdependence in both their personal and professional relationships and within their community.

The Explorer program is based on a unique and dynamic relationship between youth and the organizations within their communities. Local community organizations initiate a specific Explorer post by matching their population and program resources to the interests of young people in the community.

Explorers Honor Guard

The result of the Sheriff’s Office Explorer program is helpful youths pursuing and furthering their special interests in Law Enforcement. The El Dorado County Sheriff Explorers provide a variety of law enforcement support functions including traffic control assistance, parking and crowd control, crime prevention and public information, and other public service activities to make our community better and safer. Explorers also receive many hours of law enforcement training by El Dorado County Sheriff’s department personnel.

The Post provides youth with an insight and a vast array of hands-on training programs related to the functions of the Sheriff Office. In addition, they provide a variety of services that are invaluable to the community. During 2016, the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office Explorers provided over 4,939 hours of community service work at various events including the Search and Rescue Crab Feed, County Fair, 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular, National Night Out, Toys for Tots, County Career Fairs, Kids Expo, Friends of the NRA Dinner, and Under Aged Drinking Prevention.

Explorer Post 457 was awarded 2016 Volunteers of the year for their exceptional service to the Sheriff's Office and to the citizens of El Dorado County.
