Employment Opportunity: Care Providers Sought for In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) Clients
Human Services

Care providers are actively being recruited in El Dorado County to assist clients in the county’s In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) program. “The ideal care provider is dependable and has strong compassion to care for an elderly and/or disabled adult or disabled child,” said Star Walker, Program Coordinator for the El Dorado County IHSS Public Authority. Care providers help IHSS clients stay safely in their homes by completing tasks such as cooking meals, doing laundry, shopping for groceries, running errands and/or helping with personal care services.

Care provider applicants should have experience providing care, and have a current driver’s license and reliable transportation; they must also be fingerprinted and pass a criminal background check, reference checks and other screening requirements. Applicants pay for the cost of their fingerprinting.

The IHSS Public Authority recruits and screens, enrolls and orients IHSS care providers. The Public Authority also maintains a Registry of care providers. “The Registry is a referral service that creates a listing of eligible care providers, including their qualifications, hours they are available and the type of service they would like to provide,” said Walker. “IHSS clients can use the Registry to find a care provider that best suits their needs. Some clients only need help with minimal tasks a few hours per week, whereas others may need more extensive help.” Care providers are hired by the IHSS recipient and paid through the State. Hours vary and are mutually determined by the care provider and IHSS recipient.
