Senior of the Year and Nominees Recognized in El Dorado County
May is National Older Americans Month
(Placerville, CA) - Older Americans Month is observed across the nation each year in May. This year during Older Americans Month, the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors (BOS) will recognize several outstanding older residents for their exemplary contributions in the County as volunteers. On May 22, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the Board Chambers located at 330 Fair Lane in Placerville, the BOS will acknowledge Older Americans Month, announce Senior of the Year 2018 nominees and present the award to the individual selected as "Senior of the Year." The event is hosted by the El Dorado County Area Agency on Aging and the Commission on Aging.
The 2018 Older Americans Month theme, Engage at Every Age, emphasizes that individuals are never too old (or young) to take part in activities that enrich their physical, mental and emotional well-being. It also celebrates the many ways older adults make a difference in communities.
"It's important that we take time to acknowledge the rich contributions of older adults in our County," Michelle Hunter, Manager of El Dorado County Senior Services. "Many older adults give their time, expertise and experience to worthy volunteer efforts that benefit others. We are grateful for these individuals."
"In El Dorado County, we are also committed to supporting older adults as they take charge of their health, explore opportunities and activities, and focus on independence," added Hunter. "El Dorado County Senior Services offers many programs and services for older adults."
