Free Aging and Caregiver Educational Series Coming to Placerville


(Placerville, CA) – The El Dorado County Health and Human Services Agency, Family Caregiver Support Program (FCSP) is pleased to present a free Aging & Caregiver educational series in Placerville. The three-part series will be held on Tuesdays, January 15, 22 and 29, 2019, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Placerville Senior Center (Dining Room) located at 937 Spring Street in Placerville. The series will provide instruction and support for people who care for, or plan to care for, a family member or friend aged 60 years or older. Series topics include: 

  • January 15 - Navigating Through the Medi-Cal Long-Term Care Matrix. This training will include a discussion on the eligibility and application process of Medi-Cal Long-Term Care.
  • January 22 - Understanding and Responding to Dementia Related Behaviors.  Learn about the common triggers for behaviors associated with dementia, how to assess the person's needs, and how to intervene effectively.
  • January 29 - Financial Power of Attorney and Advanced Health Care Directives. Learn about your legal rights and responsibilities as a health care and/or financial agent, including many other responsibilities associated with the health and well-being of your loved one. Includes discussion about Physician Order for Life-Sustaining Treatment (POLST).

This Aging and Caregiver series will be presented by local experts in their respected fields. Participants may attend one or all of the classes. The classes are free of charge, although donations are accepted. Light refreshments will be served. The series is offered as an educational opportunity only; no solicitation of services will be presented. Respite care may be available for qualified caregivers.

The educational series is offered by the El Dorado County FCSP and In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) Public Authority, in partnership with El Dorado County Income Support, the Northern California and Northern Nevada Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, and El Dorado County Senior Legal.
