EL DORADO COUNTY ANNOUNCES
2019 SENIOR OF THE YEAR WINNER AND NOMINEES
(Placerville, CA) - The votes are in for the 2019 Senior of the Year award in El Dorado County. John Raslear, retired resident of El Dorado Hills, received the award at the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors meeting on May 21, 2019. John was recognized for his exemplary volunteer service with the El Dorado County Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program, a program that improves care and quality of life for people living in nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
A former teacher and building inspector for more than 35 years, John has spent his life in service to others. John has served as a State-certified volunteer Ombudsman in the El Dorado County Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program for nearly six years. He has dedicated countless hours visiting skilled nursing and assisted living facilities, and investigating complaints. Due to his proven insight and diligence, he has resolved 29 complaint cases. The demands of the ombudsman position can be stressful, but John says he enjoys using his talents and time to improve the quality of life for others.
John is also an active volunteer for other organizations. Over the past 12 years, he served as the Chairman and founder of the Four Seasons Civic League, Vice Chairman of the El Dorado County Planning Advisory Committee and Chairman of the Folsom Concert Association Outreach Program. He also volunteers with Holy Trinity Church. John retired to the El Dorado Hills area 14 years ago with his wife of 54 years to be closer to their two daughters and six grandchildren.
In addition to John, nineteen older adults in El Dorado County were recognized for their volunteer service as nominees for Senior of the Year. Nominees were: Dana LaForce, Rowland and Sharon Gall, Richard Buethe, Eileen Jassowski, Vi Tara, Jim Von Tellrop, Dan and Terri Haverty, Marilyn Marcroft, Carole and Bob Burnley, Barbara Raines, Marty Jackson-Newhard, Ernie Claudio, Bill and Dixie Buxton, Rene Evans, Lynn Manchester, Pat Schoggins, Helen Walsh, Lucille Katavich-Wegner and Carol Hall.
