Week Three: Indoor and Outdoor Safety

Indoor Safety:

  • Heat your home safely.
  • Have a plan for power outages.
  • Check your carbon monoxide (CO) and smoke detectors.
    Since you can't see or smell carbon monoxide, it is important to recognize the most common symptoms of CO poisoning which include:
    • Headache
    • Dizziness
    • Weakness
    • Nausea
    • Vomiting
    • Chest pain
    • Confusion

CO poisoning can be confused with flu symptoms, food poisoning and other illnesses. If you think you're experiencing CO poisioning, get fresh air and seek medical attention immediately!

Outdoor Safety:

  • Dress warmly, wear layers and stay dry.
