Being prepared can make it easier to respond to and recover from an emergency or disaster.  During National Preparedness Month, El Dorado County Health and Human Services Agency – Public Health Division encourages residents and businesses of El Dorado County to prepare for local threats, such as wildfires and extreme weather by:

·         Building a disaster supply kit (for people and animals)

·         Making an emergency plan (for people and animals)

·         Being informed and

·         Getting involved

“Emergency preparedness can seem overwhelming at first and may be a barrier for some people to start the process,” said Kristine Oase Guth, Public Health Preparedness and Response Program Manager.  “Using the ‘Do 1 Thing’ website helps break down preparedness activities for each month of the year.  Residents can take small steps each month towards preparing themselves, their families and communities for an emergency or disaster.”  Do 1 Thing is a twelve-month program that focuses on a different area of emergency preparedness each month.
