Kitten season is almost here!  For a limited time, the El Dorado County Animal Services shelter in Placerville is offering $20 adoptions for adult cats now at the shelter to make room for the anticipated increase in felines.  “Spring is traditionally our busiest time of the year, with lots of kittens coming into the shelter, and we are nearly full already,” said Allison Lozoya, shelter supervisor.  “Right now we have many wonderful adult cats that need homes.  They are all highly adoptable, and include short hair to long hair breeds in all colors and ages.”

The limited-time $20 adoption fee for adult cats at the Placerville shelter includes a veterinary check, needed vaccinations, microchip, and spay or neuter.  “Anyone who has been thinking of adopting a cat will find many adorable ones right now at our shelter,” said Lozoya.  Animal Services is able to offer the significant reduction in the adoption fee (normally $80) through the generous assistance of the local non-profit organization People for Animal Welfare in El Dorado County (PAWED).

The shelter is located at 511 Placerville Drive in Placerville and is open Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. – Noon and 1:00 – 4:30 p.m.  Pictures and information about the cats available for adoption can be found at  The website is updated daily.  In addition to adoptions, the shelter also has spay and neuter coupons available for pick up in the shelter office on a first come, first serve basis.  To reach the shelter, call (530) 621-7631.
