 2014 SOUTH LAKE TAHOE PARKS, TRAILS AND RECREATION MASTER PLAN - FINAL

Executive Summary of Draft Master Plan

Public Open House for Master Plan - Thursday, September 25, 2014 at 7:00 p.m.

In Spring 2013, El Dorado County and the City of South Lake Tahoe joined forces to create a new Parks, Trails and Recreation Master Plan for the South Shore. This plan will identify community needs and create strategies for improving recreation opportunities for residents and visitors by enhancing parks, recreation facilities, trails, events and programs.

The Master Plan will take about a year to develop to ensure that it:                                                                                SLT Master Plan Recreation Plan Image

  • Reflects the needs and priorities of this community;
  • Includes strategies to protect ecological resources and reduce environmental impacts;
  • Supports the economic vitality of the South Shore; and
  • Enhances recreation opportunities to support a high quality of life.

Your Input is Needed!

Community outreach and participation are critical to the success of the Master Plan. You can get involved in one or more of the following ways:

  • Community Intercept Event: Fun, interactive voting exercises were held at several locations throughout the summer of 2013.
  • Parks and Recreation Community Survey: PARCS Surveys were mailed to randomly-selected residents.
  • Online Questionnaire: A Parks and Recreation Questionnaire was made available from August-October 7, 2013.  We appreciate all of the feedback we received. These results will be used to identify park and recreation needs for South Shore residents and visitors. Check back here later for details on future public involvement opportunities, including a Visioning Workshop anticipated to be held in December 2013.
  • Visioning Round Table: What’s your future vision for parks and recreation? Join us Wednesday, December 11, 2013, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. or Thursday, December 12, 2013, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.for a community workshop to discuss your visions and priorities.
  • Other Opportunities: Check back here for more ways to be involved. This includes attending focus group meetings and, next winter, reviewing recommendations.

Guidance for the planning process is provided by a Master Plan Advisory Committee, with representatives from the City, County, and key recreation, environmental, community and economic experts. They will help keep us on track. We also met with several plan stakeholders in June. But that’s not enough. Your involvement (and that of your friends, neighbors, coworkers, and teammates) ensures the Parks, Trails and Recreation Master Plan will reflect the priorities and needs this community. Please join the fun and get involved!
