Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

ADA Logo Welcome to El Dorado County ADA Services Homepage

El Dorado County is thoroughly committed to ensuring accessibility to all county programs and facilities, including meeting all requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and California law. The ADA of 1990, along with its implementing regulations, and the California Government Code Sections 4450 et seq. prescribe that facilities shall be made accessible to persons with disabilities. Since the Act was signed into law, El Dorado County has made continual strides towards ensuring accessibility to all County programs and services.

About Local and State Government ADA Compliance

Local and State Government ADA Compliance can be broken down into two areas of focus: County Right of Way and Facilities

Transportation Division: County Right of Way (roadways, curbs, and ramps)

El Dorado County - Transportation Division is thoroughly committed to making all areas within the County right of way accessible to all pedestrians including those with disabilities. The ADA requires all public agencies to develop an ADA Transition Plan for the installation of curb ramps or other sloped areas at all locations where walkways cross curbs on County maintained roadways. To this end, Transportation has developed a Transition Plan to upgrade curbs and ramps within the County right-of-way. The Transition Plan is available for public review and can be found by clicking on “Documents and Plans.”

Facilities (physical access to El Dorado County facilities)

In accordance with the requirements of Title II of the ADA, El Dorado County will not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities on the basis of disability in its services, programs, activities, or facilities. Compliance for County owned or maintained facilities, such as buildings, are being addressed by the County Facilities Department.
