Norman Smith

Norm was born in Arkansas but was moved, with his family, to California at one year of age. His family moved up and down the state picking various fruits, vegetables, and other crops.
His family settled in Dos Palos (Merced Co.) where he went through school.
After graduating Norm enlisted in the U.S. Navy for four years serving as an Electronics Technician, Petty Officer Second Class.
Norm then entered college where he completed the following:
· Bachelor’s of Science: (major-biology, minors-math, physics
· Master’s of Science: (major-zoology, minors-botany, physics
· Doctor of Philosophy: (major-zoology, minor-botany
He then started teaching (for a total of 38 years) which includes the following:
· Middle school (Dos Palos, San Jose)
· San Joaquin Delta College (Stockton)
· High school (Hawaii)
Norm has two sons, Michael 42 and Erik 39.
Norm serves on the El Dorado Commission on Aging and the El Dorado Committee Action Council. He has also served on the El Dorado Democratic Central Committee.
Norm is also a member of the Sierra Club, Audubon Society, Sierra Wildlife Rescue, Defenders of Wildlife and the Nature Conservatory.
Norm is widowed and lives with his elder son on Sly Park Road.
