El Dorado County Senior Day Care Services is hosting a free training for family caregivers of people with dementia on August 24, 2015, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Senior Center, 990 Lassen Lane in El Dorado Hills. The "Art Reflections for Dementia Caregivers" training provides research-proven techniques that use art to awaken memories, strengthen relationships and enrich the lives of people with dementia.
By understanding how to incorporate art as a form of comfort care, attendees will come away with tools to open nurturing gateways for encouragement, memory recollection and self-expression in their caregiving. The training will be provided through a speaker from the local non-profit organization called Artisan Mind.
Seating for the training is limited. For more information, please contact Jillien Smith, with Senior Day Care, at (916) 358-3565. Senior Day Care offers quality care and activities for adults who need supervision during the day due to dementia. Services include group exercise, meals, medication management, crafts, guest speakers and live music. Senior Day Care is a program of the El Dorado County Health and Human Services Agency and there are two sites, one in Placerville and one in El Dorado Hills, both of which are accepting new members.
