The El Dorado County Senior Center in Placerville recently completed a series of much needed improvements to its facility to enhance functionality and create a more comfortable and inviting environment. According to Star Walker, Program Coordinator for El Dorado County Senior Services, the improvements were made possible due to the generosity of a community member who gave $52,000 to the Center as part of a life insurance policy bequest.
“We are extremely thankful and appreciative,” said Walker. “We have received very positive feedback about the improvements from our guests at the Center.” Improvements to the Center have included new electronic products and a new sound system to be used for educational classes and presentations for seniors; a new resource center with three new computers and new furniture; new paint and new signs on the exterior of the building; and new signs and new furniture in other locations throughout the Center.
Walker hopes members of the community will come by and check out the Center and its improvements. The Senior Center is located at 937 Spring Street in Placerville and is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. “It’s a great place for older adults to learn new skills, stay active, share a meal and stay connected,” said Walker. Many of the programs and services of the Center are low or no-cost. Programs and services offered through the Placerville Senior Center include exercise and health education classes, arts and crafts, nutrition services, legal services, insurance and peer counseling, caregiver services, senior trips and other activities.
