El Dorado County and community leaders have joined together to creatively meet a need for local seniors. Beginning November 2, 2015, nutritious lunches for seniors (ages 60+) will be available on Mondays and Fridays from 12:00 to 12:30 p.m. at the Cameron Park Community Center, 2502 Country Club Drive in Cameron Park. The meal will be offered for the suggested donation of only $3.00.

The lunches are available to all seniors; those living in the Cameron Park, Shingle Springs, Rescue and the surrounding area are especially encouraged to participate. This marks the eighth site for the Senior Nutrition Program of the El Dorado County Health and Human Services Agency, which offers a number of programs that serve older adults in the community.

"I am very excited to see this senior nutrition program implemented in Cameron Park," said El Dorado County District Two Supervisor, Shiva Frentzen. "This program will allow our seniors to benefit nutritionally as well as socially. I encourage community members to participate in the meal program and consider volunteering to support this program."

The new senior nutrition site in Cameron Park came about through a collaborative partnership between the Senior Nutrition Program of the El Dorado County Health and Human Services Agency, the Food Bank of El Dorado County, and the Cameron Park Community Services District, with support from the Mature Leadership Council. It was approved by the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors in September 2015.

"The Cameron Park Community Services District is very pleased to host the senior nutrition program at the Community Center where members of all ages are served through a variety of programs," said Mary Cahill, General Manager of the Cameron Park Community Services District.

The program will be operated by volunteers of the Food Bank of El Dorado County and the Mature Leadership Council. The Food Bank is still looking to establish volunteers to help operate the nutrition program site. Anyone interested in volunteering may contact the Food Bank at (530) 621-9950 or send an email to volunteer@foodbankedc.org.

"We are extremely eager to participate in the Senior Nutrition pilot program in Cameron Park," said Mike Sproull, Executive Director of the Food Bank of El Dorado County. "I would like to personally thank the five supervisors for their willingness to think outside of the box and start new partnerships with private non-profit organizations for the greater good of the community. We look forward to serving our local seniors, as we have tremendous respect for them and feel they should have equal opportunities provided to them throughout El Dorado County."
