The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program (formerly known as Section 8) is a federally funded program that subsidizes decent, safe and sanitary housing for low-income persons. Applicants must meet all United State Department of Housing and Urban Development income and eligibility requirements.

What: Applications for the El Dorado County HCV Program Waiting List will be accepted online ONLY.

When: The open enrollment period will be Monday, October 17, 2016 at 9:00 am to Saturday, October 23, 2016 at 11:59 p.m, PST. This wait list is not a first-come, first-served basis. Applicants will have an equal opportunity of being selected via a computer lottery system.

How: Applications will be accepted online ONLY at https://www.waitlistcheck.com/CA1867  

Submission of an application does not guarantee placement on any Waiting List. Only one application per family will be accepted. Duplicate applications will be rejected. Paper applications will not be distributed or accepted.

Reasonable Accommodation: It is the policy of the El Dorado County Housing Authority to provide reasonable accommodations to those persons with disabilities so that they can participate equally in its housing programs. Where: Applications can be submitted ONLINE only with the use of a personal computer, laptop, smart phone or tablet. The following locations are open to the public and have internet access that is needed to complete the online application:

Applications will NOT be accepted in person at the Housing Authority office. See Reasonable Accommodation.

Information Needed:

  • An email address. If you do not already have one, it is best to set one up ahead of time. The application process will also allow you to create one. Be sure to remember your user name and password.
  • Names of everyone in the household
  • Social Security numbers of everyone in the household
  • Birthdates of everyone in the household
  • Income information for everyone in the household
  • If you need assistance in another language, Google Translate will assist you during the application process.

Lottery Process: The Waiting List placement will be based on a computerized random selection (lottery process). Once the Wait List open enrollment period ends, 500 of the applications received will be selected for the Wait List. Once the 500 are selected, they will be reviewed to determine preliminary eligibility and preferences will be applied to determine the final order. Submission of an application does not guarantee placement on the Wait List, eligibility or an offer of a Housing Choice Voucher. 

Reasons for Denial of Applications: Applications will be removed from the Wait List if any of the following are determined at the initial interview:

  • Drug or violent criminal activity within the past 5 years. If any prior drug activity, you may remain on the list if you have completed or are in a drug rehabilitation program at the time of the initial interview.
  • Life-time registered sex offender.
  • Persons convicted of manufacturing or producing methamphetamine.
  • If any family member has been evicted/terminated from a federally-assisted housing program in the past 5 years.

Criminal background checks and screening for previous tenant history in assisted housing is conducted at the time of the eligibility interview for all adult household members.

In January 2017, the County of El Dorado Housing Authority will post the status information on www.wiatlistcheck.com. Applicants may verify if they were selected for the Wait List.
