CONTINUUM OF CARE

A Continuum of Care Plan is a community plan to organize and deliver housing and services to meet the specific needs of people who are homeless as they move to stable housing and maximum self-sufficiency. It includes action steps to end homelessness and prevent a return to homelessness.

The County of El Dorado has gathered a Continuum of Care Stakeholders Committee that collaborates with many homeless service program and governmental agencies, with the goal of coordinating homeless services currently provided in the County. The members of this committee are all involved in a larger network within the community, participating on various boards, advisory committees and coalitions that address the needs of the homeless as well and the needs of disadvantaged or ‘at risk’ individuals in the County that includes youth. This collaboration is essential to obtain and share information and to work collectively on homeless problems and solutions. The goal is to encourage every community member that is interested in advocating for the homeless to work together to find a solution that addresses the homelessness in our community.

The County of El Dorado’s mission is to respectfully serve all persons in a manner that improves the overall quality of life in El Dorado County. Our mission in respect to this plan is to reduce and mitigate homelessness in the El Dorado County though a continuum of care strategy that includes community awareness, development of site location, and support.

The Continuum of Care strategy is part of the Housing Element which is incorporated in the County's General Plan designed to address the existing and projected housing needs of all economic segments of the community. The County is in the process of updating its current Housing Element for the planning period 2008-2013.
