Register To Vote

In order to register to vote in California, you must:

  • Be a United States Citizen and a resident of California (overseas or in the Uniformed Services?)

  • Be 18 years old or older on Election Day

  • Not be currently in State of Federal Prison or on parole for a felony (questions?)

  • Not prohibited from voting by a court as part of a mental incompetency ruling. (questions?)

To Register to Vote, please go to https://registertovote.ca.gov/ and complete the online process, or fill out and return a paper affidavit available at elections offices, post offices, the Department of Motor Vehicles, and other public service agencies.

If you are in the Uniformed Services, a Merchant Marie, a U.S. Public Health Service or National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Commissioned Corp Member, or active member of the National Guard or state militia, or eligible spouse or depended of such person, or an eligible Citizen overseas, you may use your last domicile when registering to vote.  Additional services are available to these voters – https://www.fvap.gov/ covers what is available, and you can use the FPCA form or register on California's registration portal.
