Zika Virus Information

CDC has issued guidance on "Preventing Transmission of Zika Virus in Labor and Delivery Settings"  CDPH endorses the CDC guidance, as well as their recommendation for the use of standard precautions.

CDC has issued new guidance and information to prevent Zika virus transmission and health effects:
1) Updated interim guidance for healthcare professionals for counseling patients about pregnancy planning and the timing of pregnancy after possible exposure to Zika virus; and
2) Updated interim guidance for preventing sexual transmission with information about how long men and women should consider using condoms or not having sex. 
CDPH endorses the new CDC guidance and recommends its use throughout California. 

February 10, 2016, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) activated the JEOCuser43@cdph.ca.gov mailbox to capture and address questions regarding the Zika virus. The Medical and Health Coordination Center (MHCC) has been activated at Duty Officer Level Status.

February 5, 2016, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released two new interim guidelines on Zika: one for the prevention of sexual transmission, and another for healthcare providers caring for pregnant women and women of reproductive age. These new guidelines update the original guidance issued on January 22, 2016. 
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is issuing this Health Advisory summarizing the key elements in the CDC documents. The Health Advisory can be found on the CDPH website at the link below.
