District Attorney Vern Pierson announces the felony conviction of Steven Robert Moon for Possessing Methamphetamine for Sale, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Driving on a Suspended License.

On June 22 22, 2016, an El Dorado County jury made up of 8 men and 4 women convicted Steven Robert Moon of Possessing Methamphetamine for Sale, Felony in Possession of a Firearm, and Driving on a Suspended License. The court also found true that the defendant had suffered a prior strike conviction, served two prior prison terms, and was out on bail at the time of these offenses.  The jury deliberated for three and a half hours after hearing testimony from Detective Jacob Verhalen, Criminalist Desiree Dudley, and Chief Assistant District Attorney William Clark.  The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Ashley Colivas and investigated by the Folsom Police Department and the El Dorado County District Attorney's Office.  After the verdicts, the Honorable James R. Wagoner remanded the defendant into the El Dorado County Jail with no bail pending his August 1, 2016 sentencing hearing. The defendant faces a maximum of 11 years and four months in state prison.

District Attorney Vern Pierson stated, “The failure of Proposition 47, the 2014 law inexplicably named the Safe Neighborhoods and Schools Act, has unfortunately led to an increase in drug and theft cases around the state.  In El Dorado County, we are committed to insuring the aggressive investigation and prosecution of drug sales and gun cases and to holding all perpetrators of these crimes accountable."
