District Attorney Vern Pierson
announces the felony conviction of Michael Adam Jordan for Possession of a
Stolen Vehicle after he was found guilty by a South Lake Tahoe jury.
In the early morning hours of March 17,
2016, the victim had his work pick-up truck stolen from the driveway of his
home. Just five days later, Officer
Morrison with the South Lake Tahoe Police Department responded to a trespass call. When Officer Morrison arrived at the house,
he saw the defendant working under the steering column of the stolen
truck. The defendant was confrontational
with Officer Morrison, had a knife within arms-reach, and was forcefully placed
in handcuffs. A search of the truck
revealed a methamphetamine pipe and a false bill of sale attempting to register
the truck in the defendant’s name (a common scheme used by vehicle
thieves).
The jury heard evidence and testimony
over the course of three days, and deliberated for approximately three hours. The case was prosecuted by Deputy District
Attorney Brett Swenson. Mr. Jordan now
faces up to eight years in state prison.
He will be sentenced on July 29, 2016.
District Attorney Vern Pierson stated,
“Vehicle theft is unfortunately on the rise in El Dorado County. Hopefully, criminals in our county are
beginning to get the message that the perceived benefits of committing these
crimes do not outweigh the consequences.
Our office is committed to protecting victims of auto theft and to the
aggressive prosecution of perpetrators of these crimes.”
