Placerville, Calif- The El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office announced that an 8 man 4 women jury found David Charles Everett (25years old) guilty of sodomy, oral copulation, and other lewd acts with a child 10 years old or younger.
During the month of April, 2013 the parents of an El Dorado County child alleged sexual misconduct to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department. Sheriff investigators gathered evidence, interviewed witnesses, and developed enough probable cause to arrest Everett. On April 24, 2013 Everett was booked into the El Dorado County Jail on multiple felony
counts with a no bail hold.
The El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office subsequently charged David Charles Everett with 12 counts of sexual misconduct with a victim under 10 years old or younger and he was ordered to stand trial. On May 1, 2014 the trial began with an aggressive prosecution team lead by Deputy District Attorney Lisette Suder. Over the next three court days the
jury observed Suder present evidence, question witnesses, and dismantle the defense team’s arguments. DDA Suder commented after the trial “children and victims of sexual assault often times feel they go unheard in the criminal justice system. Though nothing can change the physical and emotional pain that has occurred, it is my hope that the victim and family
can find some sort of peace in the guilty verdict”.
After hearing of the guilty verdict District Attorney Vern Pierson commented “sexual assault cases present unique and difficult challenges. This prosecutorial team lead by Deputy District Attorney Suder conducted themselves with the utmost expertise and professionalism while presenting the case to the jury”.
Sentencing for Everett is set for June 13, 2014 at 1:30 PM in Department 1 of the Superior Court of El Dorado County. Everett faces up to 200 years to life plus 10.
