The El Dorado County Department of Child Support Services was awarded $85,000 for its work performance in 1999-2000.

The department competed with the 57 other counties in the state and scored in the top 10 in all areas. Child Support Services is a branch of county government that offers free paternity testing and collections for child support. Last year, it collected $13 million for its clients.

“This is the first time we’ve come in the top 10” said Director Laura Roth. “This is a big accomplishment for our county.”

The cash the department received for its work is considered “incentive” money for counties that perform well. Roth said the money will be spent on better office equipment and other tools “that help us locate absentee partners and be more aggressive in collections.”

Child Support Services is working on 9,200 cases right now; 8,800 of them involve court orders. Roth said she expects the agency’s performance in 2000-2001 to be on par with last year’s performance. That could mean more incentive cash will come its way.
