Even in the face of budget cuts, reductions in staffing, technology set backs, and staff retirements the departments management team and staff united together to adapt to these challenges. By designing improved business practices and staying focused on the goal of servicing our community, they increased collections to an impressive $14,747,523 during the fiscal year 2003-2004. Each California county is ranked based on their performance, of which El Dorado surpassed all goals set by the State of California in the areas of collections on current support, collections on arrears, paternities established and court orders obtained.

Laura Roth, Director of the El Dorado County’s Child Support Office states “I am impressed, each and every day, in how this collective group of child support professionals stays focused, not only on their own responsibilities but also on how they can help their co-workers. It's truly a team effort. The child support staff in El Dorado County is open to all ideas no matter where they may come from. We let the needs of the business determine the success of their ideas.” “We run the office like a business; providing top notch customer service, with results our customers can come to expect. We believe in treating our customers with respect and dignity, in hopes that the relationship will benefit everyone involved, especially the children.”

El Dorado County offers services in both ends of the county. On the Western slope, the office is conveniently operating at 3057 Briw Road, Suite B, next door to the Human Services Department. That office is serviced by El Dorado County transit, and provides a one stop for customers who seek assistance with child support, medical assistance, day care, job search, etc. Assistant Director Rebecca Hiles encourages anyone with a child support question to stop by the office and obtain information on services available. “El Dorado is one of the top performing counties statewide. We out perform most other agencies and in doing so, we provide an avenue for non custodial parents to meet their obligation and for custodial parents to receive the assistance they require to meet the everyday needs of their children. Everyone in the Department truly cares about our customers and the community.”

In addition to the Placerville office, Child Support Services are also provided at the South Lake Tahoe Branch. That office, led by Patty Sousek, Branch Manager, is located at 924 “A” Emerald Bay Drive. Bus transportation is also provided to and from that location. Ms. Sousek states” The staff at the Department of Child Support Services is dedicated to ensuring that families get the financial and medical support they need. Staff members regularly participate in community events held in South Lake Tahoe, like Day of the Young Child, in order to get the word out about the services the office provides. Their dedication to improving the lives of children is evidenced by the Department’s number 4 overall ranking in California.”

Those who are interested in opening a case can do so in person or by using the internet. The El Dorado County Child Support’s website can be found at http://edcgov.us/childsupport/. On the child support website, customers may email their case managers, obtain forms to open a case, check payment status, or make credit card payments. This office also provides an automated voice response unit, 24 hours per day, enabling customers to obtain payment and status information. Payments can be made by payroll deduction, as well is in person at one of the child support offices. Both child support offices are open Monday through Friday, 8 - 5.

“This is an exciting announcement for El Dorado County,” states Ms. Roth. “Our commitment to customer service and diligence in performance has paid off again this year. Top ten status for three years in a row show that this office can and will improve the lives of the children in this county. You can depend on it!”
