question we’re asked frequently is “What
happens to my sales tax? How is it spent?” The Bradley-Burns Uniform Sales and Use Tax
Law provides for a city/county rate of 1.25%. One-quarter cent of the levy is sent

Proposition
30, passed by voters in November 2012, increased the statewide sales tax rate
by one-quarter cent. Revenues from that
tax go toward K-12 schools and community colleges. It also funds public safety services that
were transferred from the state to local governments in 2011.
