Road Maintenance

Below are two illustrations demonstrating how El Dorado County receives state, federal, local and other funding to maintain its 1,080 miles of roadway.

Over the past decade, State funding has been wildly inconsistent, with a low of just over $8 million in fiscal year 2010-11 and a high of nearly $17 million in fiscal year 2012-13.  In the last four years, State funding has dropped a $1 million per year.

Federal funding has been on a steady, though not as dramatic, decline as State funding. The Board of Supervisors voted to use General fund money to contribute to needed maintenance for the five years between fiscal year 2009-10 and 2012-13, while contributions from the local tribe began in fiscal year 2014-15.

The County’s largest challenge in regard to road maintenance has been the uncertainty of state funding, as reflected below.
