El Dorado 2014 Agricultural Crop and Livestock Report Charlene Carveth (530) 621-5520 2015-10-29 Agriculture

Placerville, CA - The El Dorado County Department of Agriculture, Weights and Measures has issued its annual Crop Report. The Department is pleased to announce that the gross crop value of agricultural production in El Dorado County for 2014 was up 2.5% over the 2013 value. The $58.7 million yield in gross returns (not net profit) was up from the $57.2 million reported in 2013, according to Agricultural Commissioner Charlene Carveth.

The gross value of agricultural production continues to be on the rise in the county and has remained above pre-recession levels for three years.

Apples and apple products were once again the number one crop, grossing $16.8 million, up 14.8% from the previous year. Livestock came in at number two with $10.9 million, up over 16% from 2013, reflecting the strong prices in the market. The largest increase in crop value occurred in the nursery industry grossing $2.5 million, up 43% from the 2013 values.

It is estimated that the impact of agriculture to El Dorado County's economy totaled approximately $433 million in 2014, of which ranch marketing and value-added products contributed $235 million, and the wine industry an estimated $168 million.
