Crime Report Archive 2001 - 2010 (Updated 6/1/10)
The context of the following data is to provide information only (incidents as reported) and therefore may not be representative of analyzed data. This data does not include all calls for service and does not include incidents within the city limits of Placerville and South Lake Tahoe.
The data in this system represents over 10 years worth of reports taken by the Sheriff's Office. Care must be taken in order to not draw false conclusions with looking at a portion of this data. See the examples below for just 3 of many ways this information may be taken out of context.
A report of a crime Does NOT necessarily mean a crime occurred.
EXAMPLE: You search for your street and find a report of a "Child Molestation".
KEEP IN MIND:
This report may have been declared unfounded, or filed falsely. A report may have also been taken at this location, but the crime occurred at another location.
A perceived large number of crimes may not mean that you live in a "bad" area.
EXAMPLE: You search for all the reports that have been taken on your street. You live on Green Valley Road. You are surprised to see over 600 reports.
KEEP IN MIND: The longer the street you live on the more reports you are likely to see. Also, when you do a general search you are viewing 10 years worth of data, which includes over 124,000 reports.
Not all calls to 911 result in a police report being taken.
EXAMPLE: You have seen deputies on your street over the past few months, but you cant see the reports they have taken.
KEEP IN MIND: Every time a person calls 911 a report is not completed. Only on cases where there is evidence that a crime has occurred is a report taken. The deputies may have been simply speaking to a witness of a crime that occurred at another location, or responding to a call that did not require a report to be completed.
