HOUSING CHOICE VOUCHER PROGRAM
The Housing Choice Voucher program (formerly known as Section 8) provides rental assistance to low income individuals and families, who select their own rentals from homes, mobile homes and apartments on the private market in El Dorado County. The family pays approximately 30 percent of their income in rent to the landlord, and the Housing Authority pays the rest, up to a certain limit, directly to the landlord. Eligibility is determined by family size and income. Applicants are selected without reference to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, marital status, disability or handicap.
The El Dorado County Housing Authority closed the waiting list on February 25, 2008 and is no longer accepting applications. The waiting list is not expected to reopen for several years.
