December 3, 2011 at 6:20 pm, El Dorado County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 2100 block of Rex Court in Mosquito for a reported shooting. Deputies arrived at the residence and located two male subjects outside. One subject, identified as John Harmon was lying on the ground with what appeared to be a gun shot wound to his right lower leg. The other subject identified as Daniel Stetler had what appeared to be a laceration extending down the left side of his face. Medics were summoned and Harmon was later air lifted to a Sacramento area hospital for treatment.
Based on the preliminary investigation both subjects had been consuming alcohol during the day and an argument ensued when Harmon wanted to be driven home. Stetler refused to drive due to his intoxication level. Harmon became angry and threatened Stetler with a knife and then held the knife against his face and moved it downward in a cutting fashion.
Harmon then began walking away with a young child and Stetler armed himself with a shotgun. Harmon turned around and became upset that Stetler had armed himself and then returned with his knife held out. Harmon continued to threaten Stetler with the knife and walk towards him. Stetler shot Harmon in the leg and then called 911.
During the above events several children were present at the residence. During the incident they had called family members who arrived after the shooting. The children were taken from the residence by family members to a safe location. None of the children were injured during the incident.
Sheriff’s detectives are continuing to investigate the incident. At this time no arrests have been made.
