Medical Reserve Corps

El Dorado County Health & Human Services Department, Barton Memorial Hospital, Marshall Medical Center, and the Sacramento Regional Medical Reserve Corps have developed a local chapter of the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) here in El Dorado County.
The Medical Reserve Corps was created to enlist citizen volunteers to establish an organized pool of resources capable of being deployed to support emergency management systems already in place. The MRC is a support role that provides volunteer health professionals and resources to augment these services in the community.
During a disaster or emergency, most medical professionals will have job responsibilities where they are employed. Therefore, we are looking for RETIRED and SEMI-RETIRED professionals:
- Physicians
- Nurses
- Dentists
- Emergency Medical Technicians/Paramedics
- Lab Technicians
- Pharmacists
- Respiratory Therapists
- Non Medical Support Personnel
- Translators
- Mortuary Services
- Veterinary Professionals
- Mental and Behavioral Health Professionals
- Developmental Service Specialists
- Social Workers
- Chaplaincy Personnel
Some of the volunteer roles would be:
- Perform triage and provide care at field treatment sites, hospitals, clinics, and or medically fragile shelters.
- Screen patients, administer vaccinations or dispense medications at a county Point of Dispensing (POD) site.
- Assist Public Health Teams with Community Outreach and Education or medicating or vaccinating home bound and institutionalized patients.
- Support Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) at neighborhood First Aid Stations/Shelters.
- Logistic teams: transportation, communications, information technology, food services, security, supplies and set-up, and recovery.
