The Medical Marijuana Program (MMP) was launched in El Dorado County in August 2007. Following the passage of Senate Bill 420, the State of California established the MMP which requires counties to offer a voluntary Medical Marijuana Identification Card (MMIC). This program serves as a means to identify patients who have received a recommendation from their physician to use marijuana for a variety of medical purposes. However, SB 420 does not protect patients from Federal prosecution for possession of marijuana.

Application Process:

1. Download application from State of California website (below under “forms”) or request an application packet by calling the Processing Location.
2. Complete all pages of application.
3. Make an appointment with the County:
   • Provide proof of residency in County of El Dorado (utility bill, or phone bill showing legal address)
   • Provide a government-issued photo ID
   • Signed recommendation from physician stating the patient has a serious medical condition requiring the use of medical marijuana.
     $114.00 fee ($57.00 for Medi-Cal / CMSP patients – requires proof of Medi-Cal eligibility)
