Tobacco Use Prevention Program (TUPP) [top]
The El Dorado County Tobacco Use Prevention Program (TUPP) began in 1990. The program aims to reduce tobacco use and exposure to secondhand tobacco smoke in El Dorado County. It is funded by Proposition 99, a state tax on tobacco products. TUPP has four program priorities:
- Limit tobacco promotion in the community
- Reduce exposure to secondhand smoke, tobacco waste and other tobacco products
- Increase smoke-free public spaces, worksites, schools and communities
- Reduce availability of tobacco products
- Promote availability of stop smoking services
TUPP works with local community groups, youth, service and health organizations and schools to offer tobacco education, cessation and policy programs. We:
- Educate on the effects of secondhand smoke
- Advocate for tobacco control policies
- Encourage policies and state laws
- Inform on environmental and social norm change
- Work to reduce illegal sales of tobacco to children
