European Grapevine Moth (Lobesia botrana)

Not currently found in El Dorado County, the European Grapevine Moth (EGVM), also known as Lobesia botrana, is a serious pest of grapes, causing significant damage to the flowers and berries of grapevines. A native to southern Italy, the EGVM is a pest of economic importance to vineyards throughout Europe, northern and western Africa, the Middle East, southern Russia, Japan, and Chile. The first ever recorded detection of the EGVM in the United States occured in the Napa Valley region of California in 2009. The EGVM has now been detected in the following counties; Fresno, Lake, Mendocino, Merced, Napa, Nevada, San Joaquin, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma.
